This one was straight up awesome. Kyler and Siri came all the way from Norway to shout their love from a mountain top last week. They're likely just wrapping up a two week whirlwind of parties and celebrations that included a rowdy day at the Calgary Stampede, time in Kyler's hometown of Edmonton, and a great deal of play. And they're getting geared up for their honeymoon, aka the-most-wicked-travel-mission-ever. They'll be driving south before long, as far south as they can make it in their Volkswagen van, the beloved Happy. The last time they set out on a mission of this sort, they made it to the southern tip of Nicaragua (San Juan del Sur, coincidentally). There's no time limit, no itinerary, just two keen travelers and one Vdub. This seems an appropriate way to celebrate their marriage, which came 80 months to the day from when they first met in Mexico. They're love bloomed while on the road in a van, and it continues to grow in the same way. They've ventured to 32 countries in their years together, been pulled over for all sorts of questionable reasons, had friends and family join them for pieces of their trips, and generally had one hell of a good time.
Which is part of why I loved meeting them, hearing their stories, and falling in love with them just a bit on their wedding day. These are kindred spirits. And they are just so completely smitten with one another, it's hard not to get wrapped up in the sentiment.
Siri and her dad are so wonderful together. It made me miss mine.
It's not like me to suggest 'the jumping shot' but truth be told, I kind of secretly love them. So when Kyler and Siri told me from day one that they'd really love to jump jump, it made me smile. So does this photo.
Wouldn't be a complete Kicking Horse wedding without a photo with random masked bikers.
Surprise mariachi serenade at Peaks Grill for the aprés ceremony beverages. Followed by a conga line all the way over to the reception at the Whitetooth Grill in the day lodge.
Kyler and Siri met on the 14th. They married on the 14th. They've celebrated every 14th in between. Siri shared 14 of the many reasons she loves Kyler.
Our own beloved Van Morrison made a guest appearance. Happy the van was a bit under the weather, and spent the wedding weekend in the shop. Luck would have it that ours is the same color and same year. Like I said, kindred spirits.
